About

Hidden beneath Cashel Palace, where centuries of history meet contemporary Irish cuisine.

Our Story

The Bishop’s Buttery is the fine dining restaurant at Cashel Palace, a restored Palladian manor dating back to 1732 and set beneath the Rock of Cashel in County Tipperary.

Located in the original kitchen of the Palace, the restaurant carries the spirit of a room that has been connected to hospitality for almost three centuries.

Before it became one of Ireland’s most memorable fine dining rooms, The Bishop’s Buttery was the working kitchen of the Archbishop’s Palace.

Its vaulted ceiling, exposed stone, original flagstones and central fireplace recall the building’s earliest days, when the room was a place of preparation, warmth and gathering. The design honours that past while allowing the food, wine and hospitality to feel entirely of today.

Michelin Recognition

The Bishop’s Buttery was awarded its first Michelin Star in 2024, just two years after opening its doors. Since then, the restaurant has proudly retained its star for three consecutive years, including in the 2026 Michelin Guide.

The recognition reflects the passion and dedication of the entire team, from the kitchen to front of house team, and their commitment to showcasing the very best of Tipperary. Rooted in the produce of the Golden Vale, each menu celebrates exceptional local ingredients through thoughtful, modern Irish cooking.

For The Bishop’s Buttery, the Michelin Star is not only a mark of culinary excellence, but recognition of the people, producers and place behind every dining experience.
